Look, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards while they were still with the Flyers. They both got drafted by that team, played some successful junior hockey together and were pretty happy playing for the Flyers once they made it to the big league. Mike got the C, they nearly won a cup in 2010 (but thankfully didn't! Hawks FTW!) and they both signed long extension contracts but then, A SHOCKING TRADE! TO DIFFERENT TEAMS!!!

And while Richie wasn't too unhappy with ending up with the Kings...

Cartsie really didn't like being traded to Columbus :D:

But fate brought them back together again when the Kings traded for Carts in 2012 :D! Look at their happy little faces!!!

And then they won the Stanley Cup together. Because what might have been too ridiculous for a sports movie (friends! playing happily together! getting cruelly separated! getting back together again! winning the championship together after being reunited!), actually did happen in real life. HOCKEY BEST!!!*

*Well, except for when it isn't: the Kings just let their d-man Slava Voynov, who's suspended for domestic violence, practice with the team. Joining a long line of sport teams who care more about successful players than women :/// BE BETTER, KINGS! >:( #nofandomisunproblematic

Series: Part 1 of Hockey at the End of the World
Summary: Jeff has a plan: Get to camp, skate well. Make the team. Do well. Make the Orange. Survive. Win Cups. Get free.
Easy.

This series, you guys. Not for the faint of heart. This post-apocalyptic world is no joke and it is quite something to follow Jeff and Mike trying to navigate it. This verse made me cry quite a bit. And when I say cry, I might mean full on sobbing. I don't think I will ever be able to read it again? But I still think about it a lot. A LOT. So yes, give it a try. And good luck! :D:

Media:

Kings' Court - Cabbie hangs out at Jarret Stoll's place with Jarret, Mike and Jeff. Highlights: HOCKEY PLAYER THIGHS!!! Carts and Richie ~looking at each other. Fun with hockey/sport cliches.

LA Kings Celebrate Winning The Stanley Cup - Cabbie on the ice right after the Kings won their first Stanley Cup. Video includes such gems as: Carts, Cabbie and Richie in a threeway hug! Cabbie calling Richie's mother "mom" (since he and Mike share a last name and are therefore brothers)! Cabbie and Richie eating Cap'n Crunch out of the Stanley Cup while being less than sober :D

Enjoy! :)

I opened this and thought "Why am I being confronted by Flyers jerseys??" And then realized who is was and it was okay. :)

"Hockey at the End of the World" is one of the most remarkable stories I've ever read.

Heh, please do! Although I think there might be NICER stories to start this pairing with. This series is still fantastic though. If you don't mind your heart getting ripped to shreds every once in a while :D:

Oh Terri, I think you would love this story. And I think you can easily read it without knowing much about hockey rps otherwise :)
